A New Approach to Managing the Evolution of OWL Ontologies

چکیده
The growing demand for large and complex ontologies present new challenges related to their design, maintenance and evolution. In this paper, we propose an approach to managing the evolution of large OWL ontologies. Unlike conventional approaches that focus on the versioning of entire ontology, we use an evolutionary log to track the lifeline of each axiom or annotation that appears in an evolving ontology. We introduce the formal model for our ontology evolution framework, present related algorithms, and discuss the potential implementation scenarios.

A Loose Coupling Approach for Combining OWL Ontologies and Business Rules
In this demonstration we will show two prototypes based on the BRMS (Business Rule Management System) WODM, (1) The OWL plug-in and (2) the change-management plug-in. The OWL plugin enables authoring and executing business rules over OWL ontologies. It consists of importing OWL ontologies into WODM and using the all the functionalities offered by this BRMS to author and execute rules. The chang...
متن کاملOWL Linker: A Tool for E-Connecting OWL Ontologies
Developing ontologies in many different domain areas has led to a huge amount of distributed information. On one hand, correlating this distributed information seems so worthwhile for providing additional information and reusing ontologies. On the other hand, keeping ontologies in small modules would be helpful for maintaining and managing ontologies. Therefore, recently composing and decomposi...
متن کاملConsistent Evolution of OWL Ontologies
Support for ontology evolution is extremely important in ontology engineering and application of ontologies in dynamic environments. A core aspect in the evolution process is the to guarantee consistency of the ontology when changes occur. In this paper we discuss the consistent evolution of OWL ontologies. We present a model for the semantics of change for OWL ontologies, considering structura...
متن کاملAn Executive Approach Based On the Production of Fuzzy Ontology Using the Semantic Web Rule Language Method (SWRL)
Today, the need to deal with ambiguous information in semantic web languages is increasing. Ontology is an important part of the W3C standards for the semantic web, used to define a conceptual standard vocabulary for the exchange of data between systems, the provision of reusable databases, and the facilitation of collaboration across multiple systems. However, classical ontology is not enough ...
متن کاملApplying Belief Change to Ontology Evolution
Some of the key problems to resolve towards the realization of the vision of the Semantic Web include the creation, management and evolution of ontologies. This thesis focuses on the problem of ontology evolution. We believe that the ontology evolution community will benefit from the application of belief change techniques to ontologies and provide arguments in favor of this option. As an appli...
